Shot & Strategy of the Week
 

  • Technique: receive technical expertise on how to create the shot; 
     
  • Shot Selection and Decision Makinglearn when, why and how to put the shot into play;
     
  • Tactical Applicationapply the shot in effective patterns of play to win more points in live situations.


Registration Dates & Sessions

  • Registration opens 13 days in advance of each week and closes 48 hrs prior to each class

  • The program runs twice per week from MAY to MID-OCTOBER, but in order to balance Player Levels and avoid Member Cancellations and Fees, you may require a Registration Code from info@howardparktennis.com to join certain lessons.:
     
    • ​Tuesdays at 6 pm on Crt 2: 3.0 & Below
       
    • Wednesdays at 7 pm on Crt 2: 3.5 & Above

Costs & Fees

  • $24.50 / wk / lesson (registration via "CALENDAR SIGN-UP", not  "Adult Programs")

  • All Costs and Fees are subject to HST

May 7 & 8...................Serve & Return: Spread them Thin (Wide & T-Serves) vs Forehand Domination on the Return

May 14 & 15..............Groundstrokes: Lobsters: Offensive & Defensive Lobs (spin / flat, defensive /offensive, on the run)

May 21 & 21 .............Groundstrokes: Slice it UP - Defend, Approach, Drop it short

May 28 & 29..............Net Play: Overhead SMASH with Footwork & Defending the OH (pass and lob, loop it low)

June 4 & 5.................Serve & Return: Mix it Up (Body, Wide and T Serves) vs Return Movement and Shot Selection

June 11 & 12.............Groundstrokes: Hit and Run (Screaming Forehands up the line, intercept volleys, chip and charge, etc. etc.)

June 18 & 19.............Net Play: Finish 'Em Off (Volley Intercept / Approach Volley and Finishing Volleys)

June 25 & 26.............Groundstrokes: Approach Shots (High Drives, sliders and biting topspin)

July 2 & 3...................Serve & Return: Spin me right Round: Slice & Topspin (Slice to stretch or handcuff the returner, Spin to leapfrog an attack)

July 9 & 10.................Groundstrokes: Angles (Make the court bigger, Make them run, Make them miss)

July 16 & 17...............Net Play: The right fit (choose the volley for the situation - Volley Types)

July 23 & 24...............Groundstrokes: Sweat the Basics: Cross-court vs Down the Line (technique, body position, tactics)

July 30 & 31...............Serve & Return: Multi-Shot Patterns (Serve and Volley, Chip and charge, Rush the line, Cut the Angle, Change the pace)

Aug 6 & 7...................Net Play: Double Up - doubles volleys and play combinations

Aug 13 & 14...............Groundstrokes: Counterstrike vs Rope-a-Dope (Play strength on strength vs Buying Time and Defending) 

Aug 20 & 21...............Serve & Return: Do or Die: Second Serve and Return: Attack / Rally / Defend

Aug 27 & 28................Net Play: Pressure the Opponent  - Low, High, Wide Volleys - Cover the Middle in Doubles

Sep 3 & 4....................Groundstrokes: Time is on your Side: Hitting on the Rise vs Backing Off

Sep 10 & 11................Serve and Return: Body Blows - Serving to the body vs Making Space to Return

Sep 17 & 18................Groundstrokes: Inside-Out and Inside-In - open the court and dominate with the Forehand

Sep 24 & 25................Net Play: Swing for the Fences - swinging volleys, approach volleys and OH options

Oct 1 & 2.....................Groundstrokes: Control the Pace: Drive, Rally or Slice

Oct 8 & 9.....................Serve & Return: Charge!!! Serve / Return and Volley

Oct 15 & 16......................*Players' Choice*


Important Notes:

Club Rating Requirement: For lessons to be enjoyable and beneficial for all, Registrants must receive and HPTC Rating to enroll (2021 or later).

Exception: NEW MEMBERS enrolling in the first round of Sessions in May should use a self-rating (see here) and register for an official Club rating as soon as possible or request one during their first session.

  • Registrants may only join their current rating level;

  • Registrants may be asked to switch groups in case of self-rating error;

  • A Club rating will be required before being accepted for subsequent Sessions

Cancellations

  • ​Credits, less a 25% Cancellation Fee, will be issued for all cancellations less than 7 days before the first class (48 hrs for Shot & Strategy of the Week)  of the first day of any Session, unless a waitlisted registrant is substituted;

  • Refunds will only be offered where credits cannot be used for exceptional reasons at the discretion of HPTC

    • All Refunds will be subject to an addditional $25 Administrative Fee

  • NOTE: Missed lessons due to personal reasons such as sickness, injuries and vacations are not reimbursed

Inclement Weather

  • Communication: Cancellations will be communicated to your primary / first listed Email on the same day of a session if rain or extreme weather is highly probable

  • ​Credits for future programming will be offered if a lesson is cancelled due to rain or otherwise before it begins OR if a lesson is stopped before half of the scheduled time is completed;

Enrollment: All HPTC programs are subject to minimum enrollment (note: advanced notice of cancellation >24 hrs is generally not possible for this class)

Covid-19: All staff, students and visitors to HPTC must abide by the current HPTC and government guidelines to keep everyone safe and to keep lessons running. See here for requirements.
